Look inside Maya Becomes a Big Sister

A finished sample book. Maya is fictional; every book we make is written for the child who stars in it.

  1. Book cover: Maya, a smiling girl with curly hair puffs and yellow hair ties, hugging a baby doll wrapped in a yellow blanket

    Maya Becomes a Big Sister

  2. Maya presses her ear to her pregnant mom's round tummy on a yellow couch

Mommy’s tummy was getting rounder every day.

“There’s a baby in there,” she said. “And you’re going to be a big sister!”

  3. Shabbat dinner: Maya sits between Mom and Dad by glowing candles and a braided challah, wondering about the baby

On Friday night, Mommy lit the Shabbat candles, and Maya asked a big question. “Will there still be room for me?”

“Always,” said Daddy. “When families get bigger, hearts do too.”

  4. Maya carefully wraps her doll in a yellow blanket in the nursery, with a mezuzah on the doorframe

So Maya got ready. She touched the mezuzah on the new nursery door, just like Daddy does.

Then she practiced with her doll, Button. Soft hands. Quiet voice. Snuggly blanket.

  5. Maya holds her newborn baby brother Leo with Mom's help as he yawns

And then, one day, there he was. Tiny fingers. Tiny toes. One tiny yawn.

“Hi, Leo,” Maya whispered. “I’m your big sister.”

  6. Mom gives Maya a big warm hug while baby Leo sleeps in his bassinet

Some days Leo cried a lot, and Maya felt a little left out.

So Mommy saved a special hug, just for her.

  7. At the baby naming, Maya proudly holds up a card with Leo's Hebrew name while Mom holds the baby

At Leo’s baby naming, Maya held up his Hebrew name for everyone to see: Aryeh, which means lion.

Being a big sister is a big moment. And Maya was ready.

  8. The End

Mazel tov, Leo. Welcome to the family.
